Buckeye Hills has been providing GIS services to the eight county region of Southeastern Ohio since the early 1990's. This experience and familiarity with local communities led to the creation of the Bhgis.org Community Data Collection Program featured prominently on this website. This program was aimed at filling the need for basic infrastructure mapping and inventory services in our smallest communities. In the Summer of 2009, Buckeye Hills established this program and contacted five communities to be pilot areas for this program. The program was well recieved and was implemented as a full blown activity of the Buckeye Hills Development Department in 2011.
Communities within the Buckeye Hills region with a population of less than 5,000 are eligible to participate in this program. During January of each year, Buckeye Hills will accept applications for communities to participate in the upcoming round of data collection which will take place during the spring and summer of the same year. Buckeye Hills will choose a maximum of five (5) communities to participate each year. The cost to participate is $3,500, with a $500 annual maintenance agreement available to member communities after the first year. Once communities are selected, service agreements will be sent to each community and planning meetings will follow shortly thereafter. On average, Buckeye Hills has been able to completely collect the data in a village in approximately five full working days.
